Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the permanganate and hardness levels in dug well and drilled well water compared to PDAM water in Mencirim Deli Serdang Village in accordance with the specified requirements. Sampling was carried out from 6 hamlets and two samples were taken from each hamlet in the afternoon, because the afternoon is a transition time from busy community activities. Determination of the permanganate number was carried out by indirect permanganometric titration and hardness by complexometric titration using the eriochrome black indicator at pH 9-10 for total hardness, and the murexide indicator at pH above 12 for partial calcium hardness. The difference between total and partial hardness is calculated as magnesium hardness. The research results showed that of the 12 dug well water samples, 6 samples did not meet the permanganate requirements and 5 samples did not meet the hardness requirements. Of the 12 drilled well water samples, 3 samples did not meet the permanganate requirements and 7 samples did not meet the total hardness requirements. PDAM water meets the permanganate and total hardness requirements.
