ANTIPYRETIC EFFECTIVENESS TEST OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF CAT WHISKERS LEAVES (Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq.) IN MALE PIGEONS (Columba livia)

Abstract

Cat's whisker leaves (Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq.) contain various secondary metabolite compounds, especially flavonoids which can inhibit the release of arachidon for the cyclooxygenase pathway so that they have the potential to reduce fever. The aim of this research is to determine the types of secondary metabolite chemical compounds in cat's whisker leaves. The research phase was carried out by examining the characterization of simplicia, phytochemical screening of ethanol extract of cat's whisker leaves (EEDKk), testing the antipyretic effectiveness of ethanol extract of cat's whisker leaves using male pigeons. Each animal's initial body temperature was measured, then injected with dinitrophenol intramuscularly. Leave it for 2 hours and measure your body temperature again until you have a fever. Then the pigeons were divided into group 1 given 0.5% CMC suspension as a negative control, group 2 given paracetamol as a positive control, group 3 given 100 mg/kgBB EEDKk suspension, group 4 given 200 mg/kgBB EEDKk suspension, and group 5 given 100 mg/kgBB EEDKk suspension. EEDKk 300 mg/kgBB. Every 20 minutes after administering the test material, body temperature is measured for 3 hours until it returns to normal.  The research results showed that the ethanol extract of cat's whisker leaves contains flavonoids, alkaloids, tannin saponins, triterpenoids/steroids, and glycosides. The greater the dose of ethanol extract of kumis kumis leaves given, the greater the percentage reduction in the pigeon's body temperature, so that its antipyretic power and antipyretic effectiveness are greater. The results of the Analysis of Variants test (ANAVA) and BNT test showed that the dose of ethanol extract of cat's whisker leaves which was effective as an antipyretic at best, 200 mg/KgBB at the 130th minute, was not significantly different from 300 mg/KgBB and paracetamol 45 mg/KgBB.
